Keithley Instruments is certified to be in compliance with the ISO 14001, 1996 Environmental Management System Standard.


As described in our environmental policy, "Keithley Instruments, Inc. is committed to protecting the environment and the health and safety of our employees, our customers, and the public. We strive to conduct our activities in an environmentally sustainable manner, taking into consideration the complex and interconnected relationship of our ecosystem."

In line with this excerpt, Keithley has moved forward and implemented an ISO 14001 compliant Environmental Management System (EMS). Keithley has implemented these elements:

  Developed an Environmental Policy
  Prepared an ISO 14001 Manual
  Developed the Program's Structure and Responsibility
  Identified Environmental Aspects
  Identified Significant Environmental Aspects
  Completed a Regulatory and Compliance Review
  Developed Action Plans for Objectives and Targets
  Completed Awareness Training for All Employees
  Implemented Internal Communications and Standards
  Developed and Implemented Operating Procedures
  Installed an Environmental Record Keeping System
  Implemented an Emergency Preparedness Program
  Conducted Management Reviews
  Performed Audits
  Implemented a procedure to approve all chemicals before they are used and monitor quantities consumed
  Created this website to communicate our environmental activities to our customers and our community
  Established a rigorous corrective and preventive action process.

Accomplishments include implementing a recycling program, establishing a Chemical Review Board.

Keithley is in the process of looking at long term environmental programs including lead-free soldering, and has already adopted a non-smoking policy at each Keithley facility worldwide.

We will share information and openly communicate our EHS management systems and performance and the impacts of our activities, services, and products.

Management at all levels will take actions to ensure that all employees understand the meaning and the importance of this policy. Our employees are responsible for integrating EHS consideration into their work activities.
